RIP — Old Stories

The problem with unpublished articles is that they very rarely see the light of the day. While browsing through my unpublished stories on medium, I chanced upon the articles that I had started writing, some even 3 years ago:

What is the issue? Is it me or are there others like me. While discussing this problem with a bunch of friends I realised, this problem is more common than I thought. While it could be brushed off by attributing it to procrastination… I’m not sure if thats the whole story. Yes, procrastination definitely could be the reason, but there appears to be more to it. Other underlying reasons can vary from lack of self-confidence, feelings of ineptitude or even suffering from an imposter syndrome.

For every person the reason could be different. Upon deliberation I realised, my reason for leaving unpublished stories or unfinished articles was that I felt lesser motivated the more I read. This stemmed from the belief that I did not have much to add to what was already said. And that thought has merit. However, on further consideration, I questioned my first instinct to write any article. What was the reason for “wanting” to write. And I realised that I liked to write to be able to document. Documentation for its simple sake. My thoughts, experiences or learnings may not be different at any level. But they are however my own. And I felt the need to document them for my own self. If they provide entertainment or a casual read or insights of any kind to any one else, then that is the cherry on top.

And since I was able to understand the underlying reason for my “procrastination” — maybe I will be able to overcome it in the near future. Who knows!

What’s your reason to procrastinate?
